Department of Environment (DoE) has fined Tk3 lakh to a Sweater Factory at Baraiderchala area under Sreepur upazila in Gazipur for operating a defective effluent treatment plant (ETP).
DoE Deputy Director Sabrina Sultana on Sunday told this to the Dhaka Tribune.
She said a sweater factory identified as SQ Celcius Limited has been operating a faulty effluent treatment plant (ETP) for a long time.
By operating this plant, they have been releasing toxic liquid waste to the wet lands and neighboring rivers causing pollution of environment, biodiversity and aquatic ecosystem of the area, she added.
