Update : 07 Sep 2014, 10:01 AM

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has termed Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad's stance against the government as double standard.

He said: “Being a part of the government, Ershad can never criticise or talk against it. He cannot give threat regarding a movement against the government. It is a double standard stance.”

The minister made the remark while talking to the journalists at his office in secretariat after a meeting with a delegation of United Nations Development Programme on Sunday afternoon.

When asked about Ershad's stance, Quader said: “Jatiya Party is still in the grand alliance. He can criticise the government in house meeting of the alliance forum. In principle, they have no scope to criticise the government.”

He said the government is observing the activities of Ershad.

Regarding AK Khandaker's book, the minister said: “The book has created and is continuing to create debate for its controversial contents. The parliament has also discussed the issue.”

“It should be continued until an acceptable settlement of the historic incident. I should not make any swiping comment in this regard,” he added.

Sector Commander and Deputy Chief Commander of Liberation War AK Khandaker's book “1971: Inside and Outside” created widespread criticism for its controversial contents regarding the war.

Earlier in the day, the delegation placed a proposal to the minister regarding the elimination of traffic congestion in Dhaka city.
