Update : 07 Sep 2014, 09:18 AM

The medical services at Mitford Hospital have been halted as the intern doctors are observing work abstention since Sunday afternoon over the nurse assault incident.

Intern doctors' spokesperson Dr Iftekhar Amin said: “The nurses did not give any chance to the intern doctor to justify himself. There is no work environment at the hospital.”

He said the authorities of Mitford Hospital suspended Rafiqul Islam Sujon following the assault. But still the nurses went on strike.

Earlier in the day, nurses at Mitford Hospital gave an ultimatum of staging countrywide strikes if the registration of the intern doctor who assaulted a nurse is not cancelled within Thursday.

On Saturday, an intern doctor, Rafiqul Islam Sujon allegedly assaulted a senior nurse Bakul Rani Das physically.

The authorities of Mitford Hospital suspended Rafiqul Islam Sujon following the assault.

A three-member committee led by child department head Lutful Kabir was formed to investigate the incident.
