“Japanese government knows that in the January 5 election major political parties did not participate. He [Abe] hopes that they would go to an acceptable solution through talks which will be acceptable to Bangladeshi people and international community"

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury said quoting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe after a meeting between Abe and Khaleda Zia on Saturday evening.

“After al-Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri’s video message, it is clear that militancy is flourishing during the Awami League government. They [the Awami League] have created the atmosphere because Awami League does not believe in democracy,”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of the BNP, made the remarks on Saturday afternoon.

"The decision of making Bangladesh a base of al-Qaeda may have come through Tarique Rahman's links with the militant organisation, or he might have a link with the decision"

Ruling Awami League's joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif made the remarks while talking to reporters after distributing relief goods among families affected by fire and river erosion at Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Saturday afternoon.
