At least nine people were killed and 16 injured in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.
The majority of casualty happened at Dhuliyakhal area on Habiganj-Shayestaganj road when a Sylhet-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a human hauler going to Habiganj from Shayestaganj. Three people died on the spot and 12 others were injured at that time.
Later, two of the injured succumbed to their injuries after being taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
The deceased had been identified as Jasmine Akter (18), Shamsu Mia (60) of Baniachang upazila, Khitish Das (55) and Sajib Das (50) of Madhabpur upazila, and Monir Hossain (45) hailing from Chittagong Sadar.
Meanwhile in Mymensingh, a head-on collision between a bus and an auto-rickshaw left two persons dead and 4 others injured at Shambhuganj area, police said.
In Ashulia, two separate road accidents killed two persons.
Police and witnesses said, Khitish Chandra Sarkar (40) was run over by a speeding bus at Nabinagar bus stand yesterday early morning. The bus fled the scene leaving him dead on the spot.
Another person died when a passenger bus hit a rickshaw at Ashulia bus stand on Baipail-Abdullahpur highway at around 8am. Of the two rickshaw passengers, Babu (22) died instantly.
