I want to act opposite Shakib Khan: Sanjida Tanmoy

Update : 06 Sep 2014, 07:36 PM

Sanjida Tanmoy, who stepped into the showbiz world through the model-hunt contest “Veet-Channel i Top Model 2011,” is about to make her silver screen debut with “Bapjaner Bioscope,” a directorial venture of Reazul Rezu. The film also starred celebrated actors Shahiduzzaman Selim and Shatabdi Wadud. Sanjida has also signed for a mainstream Dhallywood movie titled “Target” and appeared in a number of TV serials including “Joyita,” “Sokhi Bhalobasa Kare Koi,” “Nirbikar Manush” and “Phd Salman.”

Dhaka Tribune caught up with the actor to know her feelings about the movie.

Tell us about the character you played...

I played Panai Bibi, a sex worker. Jibon Sarkar, who plays the bad guy, meets her at a brothel and falls in love with her, subsequently taking her to his isle to marry. Then the crisis begins and the hero, Shatabdi Wadud, subsequently comes to her rescue. The most important part of the movie is the portrayal of Panai Bibi in three different ways: as a sex worker, a bride, and a miserable, estranged housewife.

How did you manage to portray these characters?

It was not very hard since my co-artists, including Shahiduzzaman Selim and Shatabdi Wadud, helped me a lot. My director was always available to help. Even Masum Reza, the scriptwriter, also helped me in portraying the nuances of the characters. The role of a sex worker is a dream one for every actress, and I tried to do the best I could.

Any interesting story behind “Bapjaner Bioscope”?

I remember one day, while shooting, we were trapped in a sandstorm around midnight in the isle. We couldn’t see each other and lost our ways. Subsequently we found our way back to the campsite. It is a horrifying experience.

What kind of role do you want to play generally?

I have an inclination for negative roles but haven’t got an opportunity to play one yet. I also like to act in action-thriller films where I will appear as the tough, hard-nosed woman rather than the typical cute one.

Do you have a dream to work with any particular Bangladeshi actor?

I want to act in a film with Shakib Khan. I am really looking forward to working with him in my next film.

What’s your obsession besides modeling and acting?

I am a shopaholic.
