Sri Lanka returned to winning ways in the Hockey World League Round 1 mauling Hong Kong 6-1

at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium yesterday.

The Lankans went ahead in the third minute with Dhammika Ranasingha hitting the board from their second penalty corner.

Forward Mohammad Mulafar doubled the lead in the 30th minute with a fierce reverse hit from the left edge of the arc.

Sadanuwan Priya made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute with a reverse hit after cruising through the opposition defence running onto a nice through pass from Tusith Rathnasiri.

Ranasingha scored his second from another penalty corner in the 45th minute giving Sri Lanka a four-goal cushion.

Hong Kong’s Felix grabbed the lone goal for his team two minutes later with a soft push after Chan Ka Chun sent him free in the middle of the arc.

However, in the very next minute, Lakhsan Nanayakra netted the fifth goal for his side with a superb field goal.

Mulafar wrapped up the scoreline with a field goal in the 54th minute.

Following their 3-2 defeat to Bangladesh in the opening match, Sri Lanka now have three points from their first two games. The hosts, who have maximum points, will take on Hong Kong in the last match of Round 1 today.

A win for Bangladesh will see the home side top the group and qualify for the second round while a loss will send Sri Lanka to the top of the table and into the second round.
