Japanese PM accorded red carpet reception 

The Japanese premier is to stay at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel during his visit to Bangladesh

A red carpet was rolled out to welcome Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is now in Dhaka on a two-day official visit to Bangladesh at the invitation of his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina.

Mitford doctor suspended for assaulting nurse

Authorities of Mitford Hospital have suspended a doctor for assaulting a nurse physically.

Brig Gen Zakir Hasan, director of Mitford Hospital, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the suspension of the doctor.

5 killed in Habiganj road crash

Five people have been killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and human hauler in Dhuliakhal area on Habiganj Shayestaganj road.

Habiganj Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Nazim Uddin confirmed about the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.

N’ganj killing: Another RAB member held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested another member of RAB-11 for his alleged involvement in the Narayanganj seven murders case.

The arrestee was identified as Purnendu Bala, sub-inspector of RAB-11, reports UNB.

22 Bangladeshi workers return from Sudan

Twenty two Bangladeshi migrant workers, who were facing problems at work in Sudan, has come back home unpaid.

They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by an Air Arabia flight on Saturday morning.

US: Al-Qaeda not a threat

The United States does not regard al-Qaeda as a threat, US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf has said.

She made the comment when she was asked about al-Qaeda branch in the Indian Subcontinent.

The US official was addressing a regular press briefing in Washington DC on Thursday.

Physicians: 50,000 born with heart-related diseases every year

At least 50,000 babies have been getting birth with heart diseases in the country every year while 20 to 25 cases per thousand live birth with mild to severe form of congenital heart diseases.

Some child cardiac physicians disclosed the information in a press conference held in the auditorium of Central Hospital in the capital on Friday.

Government to lose Tk100 crore in a Jica project

The government will incur a loss of around Tk100 crore because of fluctuation in currency transaction rate in a telecommunication project funded through a soft loan of JPY8.04 billion by Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).

The Bangladesh government took the loan – worth Tk500 crore at the time of the contract – in Japanese yen (JPY) and the deal says the repayment and all work orders, except a small portion, have to be made in the same currency. As per the deal some work of the project can be run through the local currency.
