People from all walks of life have paid a rich tribute to the noted classical folk music guru Ekushey Padak winner Pandit Ramkanai Das at the central Shaheed Minar in Sylhet.
The body was kept from 11am to 11:30am on Saturday for paying respects to him, said Pinu Sen Das, son of the noted singer.
Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haq Chowdhury also paid tribute to the classical singer, among others.
Later, his body was taken to his Parua village under Dirai upazila of Sunamganj.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock at the death of Ramkanai Das.
The 79-year-old classical folk music guru took his last breath at 10:50pm on Friday.
He was admitted to Metropolitan Hospital in Mohakhali in the capital a few days ago after suffering from a brain stroke.
