CPB rally blast: Mufti Hannan, 12 other indicted

A Dhaka court has framed charges against 13 accused including Huji leader Mufti Hannan in a case filed under the explosive uubstances act over the blast in a rally of the Communist Party of Bangladesh.

Dhaka’s Third Additional Metropolitan Session’s Judge KM Imrul Kayes framed the charges on Thursday afternoon.

The court also fixed October 23 for opening statement of prosecution witnesses.

Five of the accused were present before the court while eight others are at large.

The accused claimed themselves innocent and sought justice when Additional Public Prosecutor Assaduzzama Khan read out the charges in front of them.

Eight people were killed and over 50 were injured during a terrorist attack on a rally of the Communist Party of Bangladesh at Paltan Maidan on January 20, 2001.

Two cases -- one for the killing and the other under the explosive substances act -- were filed over the blasts in the rally of the Communist Party of Bangladesh.

On August 21, the court indicted the 13 accused in the killing case over the CPB rally blast.
