Miscreants have kidnapped a man from Pagojjachari village under Baghaichari upazila in Rangamati early Thursday.
The victim is Bikram Chakma, 35, son of Sneha Kumar Chakma of the village.
35 Bangoltoli union Chairman Tarusi Chakma said: “A gang of 10 to 12 miscreants went to Bikram’s house around 1am and kidnapped him while he was sleeping.”
He claimed Bikram was not involved in any kind of politics.
United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) spokesperson Michael Chakma blamed Parbattya Chattagram Janasanghati Samity (PCJSS) group for the kidnapping.
He said: “Why should the general people become victims of our two groups' enmity? It should be stopped immediately.”
However, rejecting the claim, PCJSS media wing official Sajib Chakma said: “They [UPDF] have done it intentionally to denigrate us.”
