Bangladesh Chhatra League activists beat up a journalist yesterday evening following an altercation in front of Fine Arts Institute of Dhaka University.
Arifur Rahaman, sub-editor of ATN Times, is a third year student of mass communication and journalism department. He came under attack when he wanted to enter the Fine Arts Institute, witnesses said.
Chhatra League's central committee Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashiqul Islam Rono barred him to enter the premises. Arif gave his identity.
At one stage of the argument, some 10-12 activists led by Rono attacked Arif around 7:15pm.
Later, the injured journalist was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
However, Rono denied the allegation saying he was not present on the spot during the incident.
Chhatra League President Badiuzzaman Sohagh said Rono was an alcoholic and remained drunk all the time.
The central committee would take steps against him after discussion, he added.
