Convicted war criminal and former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Ghulam Azam has been suffering from pneumonia-like illness.
Doctors took an X-ray and found infection on his left lung. He has been given antibiotic injection advised by the medical board members.
Asked about the follow-up condition, Brig Gen (retd) Abdul Majid Bhuyan, director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), told the Dhaka Tribune: “His physical condition is better now. He is taking normally and has to stay under treatment for one more week."
Ghulam Azam was moved to CCU from the prison cell following breathing difficulties around 10:30am on Tuesday. The authorities formed a seven-member medical board headed by Prof ABM Abdullah, dean of medicine faculty.
The Jamaat kingpin was sentenced to 90-year imprisonment on July 15 last year.
