The government has decided to send more workers to Iraq, said the Expatriates' Welfare Minister, Khandker Mosharraf Hossain.
The minister said: “The government has decided to send workers to Iraq after getting confirmation of a safe and secure environment there.”
He made the disclosure while talking to journalists at his secretariat office on Wednesday afternoon.
Replying to a query, Mosharraf said: “The Iraqi company Hand Wa will recruit 1,400 Bangladeshi workers in their company and they have assured the Bangladeshi government that they will ensure full security of those workers.”
“Earlier, some Bangladeshi workers left Iraq because of its risky situation due to internal conflicts among different forces. But, the Iraqi authority has assured us that they will ensure security of our people.”
Considering the situation of the war-torn country, the government suspended sending workers to Iraq till getting confirmation of a safe and secure environment there.
It is estimated that over 14,000 Bangladesh nationals are working in Iraq, mostly in the constructions sector, according to the Foreign Ministry.
