A fisherman was killed and another one was injured when their boat was hit by a trawler near a fishing station on the Meghna river in Hizla upazila of Barisal early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rob Boyati, 45, the son of late Karam Ali Boyati from Sharthi village of Mehendiganj upazila and the injured was Ziauddin Akon, 40, from Shangkarpasha under Hizla upazila of the district.
Shawkat Anwar, officer-in-charge of Hizla police station, said a trawler, which came to purchase fish from Goshairhaat of Shariatpur, hit the boat when the fishermen were engaged in fishing on Meghna River near Ghat-7 on Monday night. Both the fishermen were rescued immediately and admitted to Hizla Upazila Health Complex.
Rob was transferred from the health complex, when his condition deteriorated, to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH), where he died around 4am yesterday.
Police seized the trawler, but its crews managed to escape. A case has been lodged in this connection with Hizla police station and the dead body was sent to SBMCH morgue for autopsy, the officer-in-charge added.
