Female students forced to exit room of DU dorm

Update : 31 Aug 2014, 07:55 AM

Five female students of Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University were forced to leave their room on Saturday night as they denied to join a programme of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

They were boarders of room number 105 of the residential hall.

Bangladesh Chaatra League has arranged a programme to mark the national mourning day to be held at Suhrawardy Udyan on Sunday afternoon.

BCL activists of Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall allegedly asked some female students to join Sunday's programme. The BCL activists started physical assault on the female students as they denied to attend the programme.

At one stage, the boarders were forced out of the room and the room was locked by the BCL activists.

We had to stay another room of the hall, said one of the residents of room number 105.

Provost of the hall, Sabita Rezwana Rahman said she heard the incident early in the morning.

Then, she contacted the proctor and broke the lock of the room around 11am on Sunday.

She believes that it was a trivial incident and the dispute has been settled.

Secretary of Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall BCL unit, Nabila Marufa denied the involvement of any BCL activist with the incident.
