Members of police have obstructed the procession of Islami Chhatra Sena in Sylhet, which was brought out in support of the half-day hartal.
Police also confiscated the banner from the processionists, claimed the Chhatra Sena activists.
The incident took place around 8am at the court point area of the city.
Maulana Ahmed Ali Helali, general secretary of Islami Chhatra Front's Sylhet unit alleged that police also disrupted their picketing programme.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Sylhet Kotowali model police station Monirul Islam said vehicular movement in the city is normal.
However, he did not make any comment regarding the confiscation of the banner.
The Islami Front leader said they have brought some small processions throughout the city in the morning.
The half day hartal, jointly called by Islami Chhatra Sena and Bangladesh Islami Front protesting the killing of their Ahle Sunnat leader Shaikh Nurul Islam Faruqi is underway peacefully across the country.
The hartal began at 6am and will be ended at 2pm.
On Wednesday night, unidentified armed assailants slaughtered Faruqi, a presenter of religious programmes on Channel i, at his residence in the capital’s east Rajabazar area.
The deceased was the presidium member and international affairs secretary of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat – an organisation known for opposing the views of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam.
Apart from anchoring the “Shantir Pothe” and “Kafela” programmes on Channel i, he owned Faruqi Tours and Travels Private Limited, a Hajj travel agency, and served as the imam of the Supreme Court Mosque.
