An NGO official has been stabbed to death at Chaprashirhat purba bazar under Companiganj upazila in the district.
The victim was identified as Tapan Chandra Bhowmik, 35, project director of local NGO “Basonti”.
Mahabubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kabirhat police station, said Abu Sayed alias Hukka along with some assailants entered into the Basonti office and stabbed Tapan around 1pm.
Hearing the hue and cry of Tapan, locals rushed in and took him to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College where on duty doctor declared him dead.
Meanwhile, the locals caught Abu Sayed red handed with a blood stained knife while he was trying to flee the scene after the incident. They handed him over to police after mass beating.
A case was filed with Kabirhat police station in this connection.
