SUST teachers to observe work abstention Sunday

The teachers’ association of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) will observe work abstention on Sunday protesting the attack on chairman of Social Welfare Department of the university allegedly by his student.

The decision was taken in a meeting held on Thursday evening, Genetic Engineering Department Chairman Shamshul Haq told the Dhaka Tribune.

Himadri Sekhar Roy, the university proctor said:  “The university disciplinary body on Thursday afternoon formed a three-member committee to probe the incident. They were asked to submit the report before the syndicate meeting.”

Meanwhile, the disciplinary committee has expelled Oyes from the university, he said.

Oyes Ahmed, a Master’s student, stabbed Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed when he was residing in his room at the university around 10:30am on Thursday morning, leaving him critically injured.

Later, the students rushed him to Osmani Medical College Hospital.

University Students' Advisor and Instruction Director Prof Dr Anwarul Islam said: “The student has been handed over to the police.”

Injury marks were found on his head and hands, Osmani Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Dr Tonmoy Bhattacharya said.

Meanwhile, SUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Aminul Hoque Bhuiyan visited the hospital.
