Over 200 villages of 24 unions under Sariakandi and Dhunat upazilas have been inundated as a 400-metre stretch of flood control dam collapsed.
According to Water Development Board (WDB) officials, 100 villages of 11 unions under Sariakandi and 40 villages of eight unions under Dhunut upazilas are now under water.
Dhunut upazila Chairman AKM Touhidul Alam said: "We have opened six shelter centres in the upazila to ease the sufferings of the flood affected people."
ADC General Md Khorshed Alom said: "Six shelter centres have also been set up in Shariakandi upazila. According to the official report, some 160,000 people ahve been displaced due to the flood."
However, the local administration are apprehending that at least 300,000 people have been marooned since early Friday.
Bogra's Sonatola, Sariakandi, Sherpur, Gabtali, partial of sadar upazila and Sirajganj's Kazipur, Raiganj and Tarash upazilas may be inundated as the water in Jamuna is flowing above 97-centimetre of its danger level, WDB officials said.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Moniruzzaman said Tk1 lakh and 55 metric tone rice were allocated for the affected areas on Friday.
Executive engineer of WDB Nurul Islam Sarkar said it was not possible to start the repair or reconstruction work until the rainy season ends.
