Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has stressed on further expansion of economic relations with India, especially with the North Eastern region of the neighbouring country.
The minister expressed the views when the visiting State Minister for External Affairs and Minister of State (independent charge) for North East Region of India General (retd) Vijay Kumar Sing called on him at his office on Sunday, reports BSS.
During the meeting, the minister has also emphasised on the need for enhancing further cooperation in the power sector for the development of the two nations.
They discussed various matters of mutual interest with special focus on further strengthening relations in the economic sector, foreign ministry.
There are immense scopes to enhance Bangladesh's trade relations with India especially with its North-Eastern region, VK Sing said.
In this connection, he told the meeting that prior to his visit in Dhaka, he held meeting with the chief ministers of the Indian North Eastern states in Gowhati, Assam where fruitful discussion was held to achieve economic uplift of the people in the region by ensuring inter-connectivity and enhancing business cooperation.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran and Director General of South Asia of the ministry of foreign affairs Tarique Md Ariful Islam, among others, were present on the occasion.
General (retd) VK Sing arrived in Dhaka on Saturday on a two-day visit to join in a business conclave jointly organised by India Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Kolkata and India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) with the cooperation and help of the Indian High Commission.
General (retd) VK Singh's visit follows the visit of India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in June 2014.
