Mawa-Kawrakandi ferry services resume

The ferry services on the Mawa-Kawrakandi route in Padma have resumed on Wednesday morning after around 11 hours of suspension due to severe river erosion.

The ferry services were resumed around 8am. A total of 11 ferries including K-type and dump ferry will run on the route. However, Ro Ro ferry service could not be restored till filing the report at 6pm.

No truck is being allowed to cross the river. Some 500 vehicles are now at stranded on the both sides of Mawa ghat.

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan has visited Mawa ghan and directed the authorities concerned to reset the Ro Ro ferry ghat soon. The divers of BIWTA are seen inspecting the terminal area in a bid to reconstruct it.

The owners of the Tin-shade shops at the Mawa Ferry Ghat are shifting their establishments to safer place after the terminal has broken away due to severe river erosion.
