Mawa-Kawrakandi ferry services resume after 11hrs

Ferry services on the Mawa-Kawrakandi route in Padma have resumed at 8:30am on Wednesday morning after around 11 hours of suspension due to severe river erosion.

Sirajul Haque, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Mawa has told the Dhaka Tribune.

A total of 11 ferries including K-type and dump ferry will run on the route, he said.

However, no truck will be allowed to cross the river, he added.

Some 500 vehicles are now at stranded on the both sides of Mawa ghat.

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan visited Mawa ghan on Wednesday morning.

He directed the authorities concerned to reset the Ro Ro ferry ghat soon.

Ferry services halted on Tuesday night following severe river erosion in No 3 Ro Ro ferry ghat.
