A suspected robber has been killed after a mob swooped on a group at Meghlal village under sadar upzila in Gazipur early Wednesday.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Locals said a group of five to six robbers entered the house of one Shafiz Uddin of Meghlal village around 3:30am.
Giving the identity of Detective Branch of Police, they beat up the residents and started looting valuables from the house.
Local people came to the rescue of the residents hearing their screams in the early hours of the day.
However, as the group was running away, people from the locality gave chase and managed to catch one of the members, who was later beaten to death.
Joydebpur police station Officer-in-Charge Jakir Hossain said: “Though the robbers attacked the house but they could not take away any valuables.”
“The body has been sent to Gazipur Sadar morgue for autopsy,” he said.
