Robbers shot a businessman yesterday and stole Tk30 lakh from him in Munshirhat of the district town.
Family sources said Mazharul Islam Babu, 33, a cigarette company agent, was attacked at noon when he was going to a bank to deposit the money.
A gang of robbers, riding on two motorcycles, intercepted Babu’s motorbike. They shot Babu in his head and looted the money.
When the local people came to rescue Babu, the robbers threw a few cocktail bombs and fled the scene.
Babu was first taken to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.
Later he was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital since his condition had deteriorated.
Upon receiving information, police went to the spot and recovered a pistol and some cocktail bombs.
Thakurgaon police station Officer-in-Charge AKM Mehedi confirmed the incident.
