LGED officials asked to explain audit objection

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts yesterday asked two LGED officials to explain an audit objection to their signing a project worth more than Tk. 4 crore through fake tender notice.

The 2010-11 fiscal year’s audit report found that Local Government Engineering Department executive engineer of Cox’s Bazar district and the superintendent engineer concerned signed the signed fraudulently showing that legally required tender was published in newspapers.

The parliamentary watchdog body asked the officials to form a committee to know the actual condition of the work and submit a report within the next 30 days.

The instruction was given at the 6th meeting of the committee presided over by its chairman Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, said a parliament secretariat press release.

Standing Committee members M Abdus Shadid, Mohammad Aman Ullah, M Ishaq Hossain Talukdar, M Afsarul Amin, Begum Rebeca Momin, Moin Uddin Khan Badal, AKM Maidul Islam, M Rustom Ali Farazi and Begum Wasika Aysha Khan also attended the meeting.
