At least 10 people, including a groom and his new bride, were injured as the trawler carrying the wedding procession fell prey to robbers on Friday night on the Meghna River near Noyanagar village in Gazaria upazila of the district.
The injured, many of whom had been hacked up, were admitted to different hospitals in Narayanganj.
Bridegroom Shafiqul Islam said the incident took place around 8:15pm when a gang of about 12 armed robbers on a trawler ambushed them and looted around 15 tolas of gold and valuables as they were returning home from Shatnal area of Uttar Matalab upazila of Narayanganj.
At one stage, the robbers hacked up eight people, as well as Shafiqul and his wife, before leaving the spot. Gazaria Navy Outpost In-charge Md Shakawat Hossain confirmed the incident saying security measures had been beefed up on the river after the incident. No case was filed in this connection.
