Road accidents leave five dead in 2 districts

At least five people were killed in road accidents in Mymensingh district and in Savar yesterday.

Four people were killed and two injured when a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Beltali village on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

The accident took place around 6am when a Mymensingh-bound Ena Paribahan bus crashed into an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction.

Sources said Sayed Hasan, 42, son of Selim Uddin of Trishal upazila, auto-rickshaw driver Arif Mia, 42, son of Abdul Barek Bhuiyan, Atikur Rahman, 22, son of Abdul Hamid of Charpara and Selim Mia, 45, son of Kalu Miah of Pruhitpara were killed. Sub-Inspector Ambar Hossain of Kotwali model police station confirmed the incident.

In a separate incident, a woman was killed in Savar and 25 passengers were injured when a bus driver lost control of his vehicle in front of Jahangirnagar University gate number 1 around noon yesterday. The deceased has not yet been identified.

Officer-in-Charge Badrul Alam of Ashulia police station said the accident had taken place when the driver of an Aricha-bound bus lost control over the steering wheel and hit a tree in front of Jahangirnagar University on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, killing one person instantly.
