Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman placing wreath at the mazar of Father of the Nation.
After placing the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of the great leader of the country.
The chiefs of the three services and the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division gave an armed salute to the Father of the Nation, who spearheaded the nation in achieving independence.
A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the three services gave an honour guard, BSS reported.
A special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of departed souls of Bangabandhu, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other martyrs of August 15, 1975 massacre.
Prayers were also offered seeking country's continued peace, progress and prosperity.
The prime minister, cabinet members, party leaders and workers joined a milad and doa mahfil on the mazar premises marking the National Mourning Day, organised by the cabinet division and Gopalganj district administration.
