Update : 12 Aug 2014, 08:31 PM

The incumbent FBCCI board has obtained a government permission to continue office three more months beyond its tenure to complete “organisational works.”

Department of Trade Orgainstions at commerce ministry issued a circular yesterday extending tenure till February 2015. The two-year term of the board was supposed to end in November 2014.

The apex trade body had, however, appealed for a two-year extension as it has “failed to complete substantial works of construction of its own building including basement,” said commerce ministry sources.

When contacted, President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed admitted that the tenure had been extended by three months.

“We get three more months beyond our regular term to make progress in construction works of new FBCCI building at Hatkhola road,” said Kazi  Akram.

A commerce ministry official said it has become a trend of FBCCI board to extend tenure as another election nears.

The previous board led by AK Azad also had the tenure extended at the end of their term.

Annisul Huq, Chairman of Mohammadi Group, Abdul Matlub Ahmed, Chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group, AK Azad, Chairman of Hameem Group, and Jasim Uddin, Chairman of Bengal Group, are said to be potential candidates in next FBCCI election.
