Minister suspends 4 BIWTA officials for negligence

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan has suspended four officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) of Chittagong on charge of negligence in duty.

During a visit at BIWTA office in Chittagong at around 9am on Tuesday, the minister issued the suspension order after he found that the officials were not present at the office during regular duty-hour.

The suspended officials are Executive Engineer Sajedur Rahman, Deputy Director (Port) Alamgir Hossain, Assistant Director Nayan Shil and Assistant Director Mohammad Selim, said Joint Director (Conservancy and Pilotage) Akkas Ali of the BIWTA in Chittagong.

He said all BIWTA employees were previously instructed to be present in the office on Tuesday, ahead of the minister’s visit.

But, the four officials were not present during the office-hour, he added.
