Launch capsize: DC to brief media

Update : 11 Aug 2014, 04:44 AM

Munshiganj deputy commissioner has called a press conference to brief media over the rescue operation of Pinak 6.

The briefing will be held at 11am at "Padma" rest house in Mawa, DC Saiful Hasan Badol told the Dhaka Tribune.

On Saturday, rescue vessel Kandari 2 detected a metallic object, which is much similar to capsized Pinak 6, under water of the Padma river near Mawa, six days after the overloaded launch sank.

However, the rescuers are yet to confirm whether it is of the remains of Pinak 6.

The divers' team of Navy, Coast Guard, fire service and BIWTA have been withdrawn from the search and rescue operation because of bad weather and strong currents of the Padma river.

Only Kandari 2 and Jorip 10 are conducting the search operation since Sunday.

Double-decker Pinak 6 sank in the river in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj with more than 250 people on its way to Mawa ghat from Kawrakandi terminal on August 4.
