Rescuers yet to reach detected object

Update : 10 Aug 2014, 10:31 AM

The rescuers have yet to reach the detected metallic object which is very similar to capsized Pinak 6, under water of the Padma river near Mawa.

Till filling of this report at 4:25pm on Sunday, the rescuers were trying to come in contact with the metallic object with the use of an anchor of the rescue ship but they could not do it due to strong currents and gigantic waves of the Padma river, said Manzur Karim Chowdhury, chief Hydrographer of Chittagong port and in-charge of Kandari 2 rescue ship.

To confirm whether the detected metallic object is from Pinak 6 or not, only Kandari 2 and Jorip 10 will continue the search operation, Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Saiful Hasan Badal told the reporters on Sunday.

The divers' team of Navy, Coast Guard, fire service and BIWTA have been withdrawn from the search and rescue operation, he said.

On Saturday, the rescue vessel Kandari 2 detected a metallic object.

Double-decked Pinak 6 sank in the river in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj with more than 250 people on its way to Mawa ghat from Kawrakandi terminal on Monday morning.
