Mosharraf: Bangladeshi workers at risk in Libya, Iraq

Update : 10 Aug 2014, 09:12 AM

Bangladeshi workers in Benghazi and Tripoli of Libya and Iraq are in a risky position due to internal conflicts among different forces in the war-torn two countries, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has said.

The minister said this while addressing a discussion meeting on “Orientation programme on migration and development” in the capital on Sunday.

With the help of the Bangladesh government some 7,000 workers have been moved to safer places in Libya, the minister said.

Regarding US airstrikes in Iraq, Khandaker said Bangladeshi workers are not the US' target.

He, however, advised them to be alert at all times and not to go to the risky areas.

Bangladesh government is continuing communications with both the governments of Libya and Iraq over the latest situation, he also said.

International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Bangladesh parliament jointly organised the programme.
