No trace of sunken launch after 7 days

Update : 10 Aug 2014, 07:52 AM

The location of Pinak 6 has not been identified yet, even after seven days of the launch capsizing in the Padma river, with over 250 passengers aboard.

The divers' team of Navy, Coast Guard, fire service and BIWTA have been withdrawn from the search and rescue operation because of bad weather and strong currents of the Padma river.

Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Saiful Hasan Badal told the reporters on Sunday.

Only Kandari 2 and Jorip 10 will continue the search operation, the DC said.

On Saturday, rescue vessel Kandari 2 detected a metallic object, which is much similar to capsized Pinak 6, under water of the Padma river near Mawa, six days after the overloaded launch sank.

Although the object’s length matched with Pinak 6, the rescuers were yet to confirm it till filling of this report at 1:30pm on Sunday.

Double-decker Pinak 6 sank in the river in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj with more than 250 people on its way to Mawa ghat from Kawrakandi terminal on Monday morning.
