BFUJ seeks independent commission for broadcast policy

Update : 09 Aug 2014, 02:06 PM

Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) have demanded immediate formation of an independent broadcast commission.

They also demanded framing of a fair broadcast policy by the commission.

The leaders of the journalists' organisation came up with the demands in a press conference in the capital on Saturday, BSS reported.

They urged the government not to implement National Broadcast Policy 2014 before formation of the commission.

BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul read out a written speech at the press conference at the National Press Club.

The BFUJ leaders said the National Broadcast Policy 2014 is the fruit of the journalists' demand.

It is the professional journalists who raised the demand for a broadcast policy, they said.

However, they said the BFUJ has concerns over a number of issues in the broadcast policy.

The big concern of the BFUJ is that the new policy empowers the information ministry to take all decisions regarding broadcasting until the enactment of broadcast commission laws and rules, the leaders said.

This will give wrong signal to all concerned at home and abroad, they observed.
