Ferry services at Shariatpur and Chandpur terminals have been suspended due to the break down of a pontoon.
The ramp for the pontoon in Ferry Shariatpur ferry terminal collapsed at 5am, said Chandpur-Shariatpur Ferry Services Manager Imran Khan.
As a result, the communication with various southern districts including Khulna, Mongla, Barisal, Chittagong, Sylhet through the river Meghna has been cut off since Saturday morning, he said.
Several hundred vehicles carrying passengers and goods were stranded at Harina ferry terminal of Chandpur and Shariatpur ferry terminal, creating untold sufferings to the passengers, he said.
A technical team has reached at Shariatpur to repair the pontoon and it may take till 11pm to repair it, Imran said.
