Rescue vessel Kandari 2 has found the trace of a metallic object, which is much alike Pinak 6, under water of the Padma river near Mawa Ferry Terminal on Saturday afternoon, five days after the launch capsized.
Kandari 2 Captain Monjur told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have traced a metallic object near the spot, where Pinak 6 capsized. But, it cannot be confirmed right now whether it is of the remains of Pinak 6.”
He said the length of the detected metal is equal to the length of the launches those ply on this route.
As of Saturday afternoon, the death toll from the launch capsize has risen to 43. The number of missing people is still 122 on the government list.
“Our duty is to trace the object. The rescue team can provide the details after completing the required formalities.”
Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner said: “A total of 43 bodies have been recovered and of those, 27 have been identified.”
Along with Jarip 10 and Kandari 2, rescue vessel Shandhani of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), two ships of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Agnibinash and Agnishashok have been conducting search operations by using ordinary methods.
The launch capsized with more than 270 people on board on Monday.
