Following a fight with her husband, a woman set herself on fire in Khonda village of Shibganj upazila under Chapainawabganj district.
Shibganj police station Officer-in-Charge Ashikur Rahman confirmed the incident.
The deceased is Rokina Begum, 25, daughter of late Badiur Rahman of Kamat village.
Locals said two years ago Rokina married Ahsan Ali of Khonda village. Since the start of the marriage there were frequent conflicts between the couple.
On Wednesday around 12:30am, the couple engaged in an altercation following which Rokina poured kerosine all over her body and set herself on fire.
Hearing her scream, the locals rescued her and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where she died yesterday morning.
Rokina’s parents said Rokina had been emotionally abused by her in-laws since beginning of their marriage.
When contacted, Rokina’s in-laws denied to comment on the incident.
Binodpur Union Parishad Chairman Mohbul Hossain said since Rokina had committed suicide following a family dispute, no case should be filed in this connection rather the matter should be resolved through local court.
