A faction of Gonojagoron Moncho led by Dr Imran H Sarkar has protested the remarks of Stephen J Rapp on war crimes issue claiming it as an attempt to save Jamaat-e-Islami from the trial.

The activists of the pro-liberation platform held a protest rally at Shahabag ‘Projonmo Chattar’ in the capital on Thursday evening.

While addressing a press conference at the American Center in the capital on August 5, US Ambassador-at-Large Stephen J Rapp said no political party should be tried for crime against humanity and the focus should be given on individuals who committed the crime.

Activists and leaders of Moncho demanded immediate apology from Stephen J Rapp to Bangladeshi people and his permanent expulsion from Bangladesh.

Speaking at the rally, Imran H Sarker slammed the USA for its lenient support to the war criminals' organisation of Bangladesh.

He said: “The USA had supported the war criminal forces and mass killings, genocide in 1971. Now they are supporting these evil forces after 43 years saying not to take any organisation under war crimes trial.”

Imran also condemned government’s silence on the issue and vowed to continue the platform’s movement against all conspiracies with war criminals trial.

Laki Akthar, secretary general of Chattra Union, Gonojagoron Moncho organiser Jibonanondho Dash also spoke in the protest rally.
