The death toll in a fire caused due to head-on collision between two buses in Narsingdi has risen to 10 till filing of this report at 10:20pm.
Eight of the deceased have been identified as Mazlu Mia, 35, of Charfuldi village of Raipur upazila, Chan Mia, 45, of Charamdua village, Nurjahan Begum, 40, Nadira Begum, 10, of Binnabaid area of Belabo, Shahnaj Begum, of Brahmanbaria sadar, Rezia Begum, 45, Ramij Uddin, 65 and Hannan, 50.
The identities of the two dead could not be known yet.
The accident took place between a Dhaka bound bus of Sohag Paribahan coming from Sylhet and another Bhairab of Kishoreganj bound bus of Meghalaya Paribahan from Dhaka collided on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in BISIC Industrial area of Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi on at 4:30pm on Wednesday.
At least 50 people were injured in the accident.
Three were found dead in the buses, our Narsinghi correspondent reported.
Four others have died at Narsingdi district hospital, confirmed hospital’s ward master Ramzan Ali Ratan.
However, Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner Abu Hena Mushed Zaman confirmed about six deaths to the reporters.
Of the injured, 15 have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the rest of them at Narsingdi district hospital.
Our DMCH Correspondent adds: Three injured people admitted at DMCH have died while undergoing treatment, said Elika Ghosh, an emergency medical officer of the hospital.
Following the accident, angry mob blockaded Dhaka-Sylhet Highway for one and half an hour.
Later, police rushed to the spot and put off the barricade.
