7 burnt to death as buses collide in Narsingdi

At least seven people have been burnt to death and 50 others injured as two passengers’ buses caught fire after head-on collision on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in BISIC Industrial area of Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi on Wednesday afternoon.

Of the deceased, three were found dead in the buses, our Narsinghi correspondent reported.

Four people have died at Narsingdi district hospital, confirmed hospital’s ward master Ramzan Ali Ratan.

However, Narsingdi Deputy Commissioner Abu Hena Mushed Zaman confirmed about six deaths to the reporters.

Of the deceased, three were identified as Sarna of Brahmanbaria, Nurjahan and Chan Mia.

The rest of the dead have not yet been identified.

The accident took place between a Dhaka bound bus of Sohag Paribahan coming from Sylhet and another Bhairab of Kishoreganj bound bus of Meghalaya Paribahan from Dhaka collided at 4:30pm in the area.

The death toll may increase.

Of the injured, 15 have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the rest of them at Narsingdi district hospital.

Four bodies have been kept in Narsigdi district hospital and two bodies are on the way to the hospital.

Following the accident, angry mob blockaded Dhaka-Sylhet Highway for one and half an hour. Later, police rushed to the spot and put off the barricade.
