Launch capsizes in Padma, 1 body recovered
A launch carrying over 150 passengers has capsized in Padma river near Mawa ghat in Munshiganj on Monday morning.
The rescuers have recovered one body as of 1:30pm, Louhajang police station Officer-in-charge Tofazzol Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune.
Draft broadcast policy approved
The cabinet has given final approval to the draft of National Broadcasting Policy.
The policy was cleared at the regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Cabinet Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed media after the meeting.

PSC plans to introduce detailed syllabus for BCS
The Public Service Commission, for the first time, is going to introduce a 'detailed' syllabus for the preliminary test of the Bangladesh Civil Service examinations, incorporating three new subjects along with the present six disciplines.
The authorities will publicise the new syllabus for the preliminary test ahead of the upcoming 35th BCS examination.
Cell phone subscribers’ growth drops
The country’s cell phone industry has witnessed a negative growth in the first half of this year, with only 27.69 lakh new subscribers having active SIMs.
Although half of the mobile phone operators had earlier used to register more than 75 lakh new subscribers in the first half of the previous years, a recent report of telecom regulatory body revealed the total number of new subscribers declined by over 68% in the first six months of 2014.

The death toll from the earthquake in southwestern China has risen to 367.
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake also left 1,881 injured in a remote area of Yunnan province. Thousands of buildings including a school were collapsed.
