A mobile court has sentenced a youth in Bagatipara upazila to one year of imprisonment on charge of taking hemp.
The convict is Azimuddin, 25, son of Abdul Gafur of village Jogipara of the upazila.
UNO Brenjon Chambugong passed the verdict on Sunday afternoon.
Bagatipara police station Officer-in-Charge Aminur Rahman said: “Police arrested Azimuddin while he was taking hemp at Jogipara crossing at around 9am. A mobile court was arranged at the upazila premises regarding the matter where the UNO passed the order.”
Earlier on the Eid day, the youth was fined Tk800 for the same reason, he added.
