Team manager joins Tigers’ on tour selection panel

Update : 02 Aug 2014, 10:52 PM

The manager of the Bangladesh national cricket team is set to become a member of the on tour selection process. According to the sources from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), a letter, informing this new directive, has already been circulated to the concerned department with the new directive coming into effect from the Tigers’ imminent tour of the West Indies this month. When queried, Jalal Younus, a BCB director and also the chairman of media and communication confirmed this news to Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

This new directive of the BCB means national team’s head-coach, captain and on-tour member of the national selection panel will now have an additional member in the form of the team manager during selection of the team on away tours.

BCB has been looking for a long-term manager for the national cricket team for quite a while and BCB’s pursuit is likely to end as negotiations with former national cricketer Selim Shahed is at an advanced stage. Although BCB used to appoint a team manager on a series by series basis previously, the appointment of Selim is likely to be for a year in order to allow both the team and its manager some time to gel.

Selim, a former first class and List A cricketer, was a right-handed batsman and an off break bowler. Sometimes known by his nickname Alam, he played 6 matches for Bangladesh in the ICC Trophy in 1993/94. Selim also appeared for Barisal Division in the first-class competition in 2001-02 season.
