Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated peacefully

Eid-ul- Fitr, the biggest religious festival for Muslims, was celebrated amid religious fervour and enthusiasm across the country on Tuesday.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Opposition Leader in Parliament Rawshan Ershad, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, and Jatiya Party Chairman H M Ershad greeted the nation and Muslims across the world on this joyous occasion.

In separate messages, they wished peace, progress and prosperity for all.

President Abdul Hamid and his wife exchanged Eid greetings with high officials and distinguished guests at Bangabhaban on Tuesday morning.

“The lessons of Eid-ul-Fitr will unite all, irrespective of parties and opinion, to build a beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh,” said the president, BSS reports.

“Eid builds affection, amity and bonds of unity among the people of all classes and professionals,” he said.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice M Muzzammel Hossain, ministers, advisers to the prime minister and state ministers were present at the reception.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon everyone to reflect on the teachings of Eid-ul-Fitr in personal, social and national lives.

“After the month-long self-restraint, Eid brings the message of happiness,” she said. “Eid teaches peace, empathy and fraternity.” The premier prayed for continued peace, progress and welfare of the county and the Muslim Ummah.

The main Eid congregation in the capital was held at the National Eidgah at 8:30am.

Professor Maulana Mohammad Salah Uddin, khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, conducted the Eid jamaat.

The largest Eid-ul-Fitr congregation in the country was held at the historic Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj, where over 350,000 people from different parts of the country took part in Eid prayers.

Former director of Islamic Foundation Maulana Faird Uddin Masud conducted the congregation. No untoward incidents were reported anywhere in the country during Eid holidays.
