At least one person has been killed and 50 others have been injured in two separate clashes in Habiganj district’s Lakhai and Ajmiriganj upazilas on Tuesday, the eid day.
Witnesses said a person has been killed and 10 others have been injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over holding Eid congregation at Lakhai in Habiganj around 10am on Tuesday.
The deceased is Shamim Miah, 25, of Begunai village of the upazila.
The injured were admitted to Upazila Health Complex.
According to police, the followers of Murshed Kamal Mushahid and the former UP member Soai Miah engaged in an altercation with each other over holding Eid congregation at Begunai village.
At one point, the two sides locked into a clash with weapons, leaving Shamin dead on the spot.
On the other hand, a clash was ensued between two groups of people following a prior enmity at Shibpasha village of Ajmiriganj upazila, leaving 40 people injured.
Locals said the followers of Azad Miah and Sabuz Miah locked horn with each others.
Officer-in- charge (OC) Ali Farid Ahmed of Ajmiriganj police station said the drive to arrest the responsible was underway.
