Update : 28 Jul 2014, 09:17 AM

All the necessary preparations to hold the country’s biggest Eid congregation at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj have been completed.

Deputy Commissioner of the district SM Alam, who is also the president of the executive committee of Sholakia Eidgah, told the Dhaka Tribune that all the necessary arrangements had been made for the 187th congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr at the historic Eidgah.

A huge number of devotees from across the world, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India, Pakistan and England, will attend Eid prayers there.

Many of them are now staying in the district town ahead of Eid in order to attend the congregation, he said.

Alam said arrangements have been made to ensure sanitation and adequate water supply for the devotees.

Besides, sufficient number of police will be deployed in and around Sholakia Eidgah to ensure security, he added.

This year, Chairman of Islahul Muslimeen Council and secretary general of Jamaat-e-Ulema Maulana Md Fariduddin Masud is scheduled to conduct the Eid Jamaat.

A special munajat will also be offered seeking divine blessings for peace, development and welfare of the people of the country as well as Muslim Ummah.

Eidgah Steering Committee, local municipality, different government organisations and district administration will jointly organise this colossal jamaat.

The first Eid congregation on this ground was held in 1828 when a local Dewan, called Sayeed Ahmed (R) of Haibatnagar Dewan Bari of the town, conducted Eid Jamaat on one of the fields of his own ‘Taluk’ (revenue zone). This later came to be known as the Sholakia Eidgah.
