Lana Del Rey: Sleeping with guys didn’t help me get record deals

Update : 24 Jul 2014, 06:03 PM

Singer Lana Del Rey says that she knows what people think of her and that she really doesn’t care about what her critics say about her.

Commenting on one of her controversial songs, Del Rey said that the song is partly about people’s perception of her morality as a person and, it is partly about what she’s actually done. Del Rey admitted in her interview with Complex magazine: “You know, I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry.” However, she also said: “None of them helped me get my record deals. Which is annoying.”

The 29-year old singer released her sophomore album “Ultraviolence” in June. The controversial song is included in the track list, along with her current lead single, “West Coast” and a cover of Nina Simone’s “The Other Woman.”

She said that her reason for adding “The Other Woman” to her new album is that she can relate to it, saying that she was the “change of routine” and not “the main thing” for a head of a label she was in a relationship with for seven years. In the interview, Del Rey also shared a few details about her recent break-up with rumored ex-boyfriend, Barrie-James O’Neill of Scottish band Kassidy. The said relationship ended badly.

When asked if there was anything she had destroyed recently, she answered, “Probably the relationship I’ve been in for the last three years. Definitely demolished that through tons of depression and insecurity. Now it’s just an untenable relationship, impossible because of my emotional instability.”

Despite going through turmoil and heartbreak in the recent months, Del Rey said that she has learned that love isn’t easy and struggles are really part of a relationship.
