The highly acclaimed play of Subachan Natya Shangsad tiltled “Mohajoner Nao” will be staged at the “Root Music Festival: Sohoj Porbo” in Kolkata on August 4 at the Robindro Sodon Auditorium.
Written by Shakoor Majid and directed by Sudip Chakraborty, the 33rd production of Subachan narrates the story of Shah Abdul Karim and his journey to the realm of music through different sequences based on his biography. Throughout the play, the actors, partly and fully, sing over 20 timeless songs from Abdul Karim’s repertoire of over 1500 songs. Karim’s philosophy is perhaps best reflected through his songs. Both the playwright and director have aptly taken this approach to establish the storyline. The play also focuses on the difficulties that Karim faced in society. The troupe premiered the play in 2010, following the death of the baul bard. So far, the show has been staged in different local and foreign theatre festivals. The performances of the actors, creative set designing and music are the special features of the play that always attracts the audience.
